eThekwini Municipality - Launch Of eThekwini Girls Rock Mentorship Programme

2018-05-25

EThekwini Municipality’s Arts and Living Cultures Department will launch the eThekwini Girls Rock Programme aimed at empowering and motivating young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to reach for their dreams.

Fifty girls (grades 11 and 12) from schools in the south of eThekwini will be paired up with accomplished women in the fields of Science, Finance, Business, Sport, Public Relations and Marketing and the Creative Arts. A programme will be developed where the women will mentor the young girls and impart valuable skills and knowledge about their chosen field and how to reach for success.

The aim of the programme is to expose the young girls to infinite possibilities, enrich them through leadership skills, education and positive identity development. They will also be taught about self-worth and building one’s confidence.
