SLG : Committed to community - Health partners in a functional community project during COVID-19

2020-07-01

While great uncertainty remains about the tough times ahead, the opportunity for business to band together and assist those at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic is equally significant.

One such partnership came from Tongaat Hulett, Spring Lights Gas (SLG) and NCP Alcohols, in creating a functional project to be implemented in KwaZulu-Natal - "Committed to Community: Health Partners during COVID-19". The aim of the project was to donate hand sanitiser to all provincial hospitals and clinics throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

Tongaat Hulett has four sugar mills in KZN and extensive cane farming estates across the province, producing more sugar than any other SADC country. The company supplied the molasses for the manufacturing of the sanitiser and made use of its huge network of growers in the province for distributing the sanitiser to clinics and hospitals.

NCP Alcohols produces fermented alcohol to various industries, including pharmaceutical markets. As part of the joint effort, they contributed to the production of the alcohol, the blending of the sanitiser and lastly the drumming of the sanitiser. As a leading supplier of high quality, environmentally clean gas to the industrial sector in KZN; SLG provided the energy for the project and a specific tailored technical service.

The 'Committed to Community: Health Partners during COVID-19' project is taking place with the cooperation of the Department of Health in KZN.
