The indigenous sportsThe indigenous sports were an interesting and exciting aspect to the SALGA KZN Games, which started on the 10th December at Hoy Park. The game of Khokho fascinated many of the spectators especially those looking in from an outsider perspective. After observing the festive warm up of singing and dance routine the players took their positions on the field. The field is a series of lines the vertical centre line is the base while the thick horizontal lines make up the playing zone. On speaking to Evergreen Ngwenya the general manager of the indigenous sports, the sport of Khokho began to take shape. There are nine players on each team and two teams participate at a time, the game last for seven minutes. Ngwenya elaborated on the origin of the sport, which became official in 2005. The sport initially originated from the Indian culture and merged into the different cultures due to the African renaissance. This in turn has created a new sport for young people to learn and enjoy in the future, which further widens South Africa's diverse and unique nation. It is through the SALGA games that new talent relating to the new sport will be recognised and acknowledged.
