Protecting our Beaches
The Natal Sharks Board (NSB) has been successfully protecting the province's bathing beaches from shark attack for more than 40 years. Its research into bather protection, with minimum impact on the environment, is respected world-wide and there is a continuing exchange of information with overseas countries, notably Australia as well as USA and other countries experiencing shark incidents.
The Board's vision is to be recognized as a global contributor in the approval, control and initiation of measures to safeguard bathers against the risk of shark attack.
The NSB's misson statement is to practice shark control with the least impact on sharks and their environment; to conduct and facilitate research into the biology and behaviour of sharks and other animals caught in the current shark control programme; to promote public understanding and acceptance of sharks and their role in the marine environment; and to create a harmonious and safe working environment for its employees and to strive to encourage employee development through transformation and training.
