CONSISTENT PRODUCT QUALITY
Corobrik's roots in KwaZulu-Natal reach way back 109 years. From small beginnings Corobrik has evolved into a substantive South African masonry, paver and concrete earth retaining systems manufacturer and marketer with a footprint in major centres throughout South Africa.

Corobrik has its head office in Durban, with three regional offices in Durban, Johannesburg and Stellenbosch, and 28 Corobrik Centres located country-wide, which together with Corobrik's extensive network of independent accredited distributors, provides Corobrik with a national presence to serve the needs of its target markets.

Corobrik presently operates 15 factories and has a logistics capability to distribute in excess of four million products per working day.

Corobrik is a BEE compliant company. On the 18th March 2011 Empowerdex confirmed Corobrik's enhanced BBBEE status as a Level Four Contributor with a 100% BEE procurement recognition level.

As at March 2011 total share equity under the control of historically disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) has accumulated to 60.95%. The Corobrik Staff Trust, a HDSA entity where each employee beneficiary has one vote, controls 26% of the issued share capital of Corobrik for the benefit of all employees. Unique, is a provision of the Staff Trust for two trustees to represent the Trustees on the Corobrik Board. The two current Directors are black females who have risen through the ranks to Centre Manager and Factory Manager positions.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Corobrik, while supporting the developmental imperative of the South African economy, is committed to doing so, within a sustainable development framework that includes:-

• Social and labour plans formulated for all quarrying and manufacturing operations within the framework of the New Order Mining Rights.
• Quarrying and manufacturing operations being undertaken within the parameters and requirements of an approved Environmental Management Plan for each quarry and process. Such plans provide for the rehabilitation and the reuse of quarries and factory sites as nature reserves around pollution free dams, recreational areas, and/or land for commercial/residential developments.
• Commissioning of independent research into building envelops most appropriate for achieving sustainable urban environments.

REDUCING ENERGY USAGE AND COROBRIK'S CARBON FOOTPRINT
The more effective use of energy, the wider use of cleaner burning fuels, and incremental reductions to Corobrik's carbon footprint at time of manufacture and during delivery of its products to sites are key operational objectives.

A manifestation of this commitment are the certificates of 'Certified Emissions Reduction' awarded to Corobrik by the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism Committee on the 13th June 2008 for Corobrik's Lawley factory fuel switch conversion project, this making Corobrik the first company in South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa to be awarded such certificates.

Corobrik now has six factories being fired on natural gas with further conversions to natural gas under investigation.

DEMATERIALISATION AND SYSTEMATIC PRODUCT ENHANCEMENT
Product development is systematically pursued to afford customers enhanced product quality and productswith performance attributes in line with changing design trends and new innovative applications.

Over the recent past successful dematerialisation has been achieved with the roll out of new extrusion technology at all Corobrik operations resulting in further energy reductions, a lower carbon footprint with enhanced product economies in application.

QUALITY ASSURANCE
Consistent product quality is at the heart of Corobrik's product strategy. Corobrik presently has six factories with ISO 9001:2000 Accreditation and with other factories busy with the accreditation process.

All production facilities are operated in accordance with international best practice. Quality Assurance and Product Development Programmes as formalised for each factory, are coordinated through Corobrik's ISOIEC 17025 Accredited Central Laboratory to ensure that all products comply with industry standards and the classification against which Corobrik's different products are manufactured and sold.

Corobrik Architectural Student of the Year Programme
The sponsorship of the Regional and National Architectural Student of the Year Award Programme, now in its 24th year, involves seven major Universities and Universities of Technology throughout South Africa.

The program is pursued to recognise the best emerging architectural talent able to make a meaningful contribution to the future sustainability of South Africa's built and natural environments.

Corobrik Building Training Centres
At the core of Corobrik's job creation endeavours, are the Corobrik Building Training Centres that focus on equipping unskilled people with building and bricklaying skills such that they can be gainfully employed.

Corobrik operates three schools, in Gauteng, Stellenbosch and Durban that are accredited in terms of the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA).

The Corobrik KwaZulu-Natal Building Training Centre is accredited as a 'Construction Centre of Excellence' by the Construction Education and Training Authority.

Donations
Corobrik's donation policy focuses mainly on the donation of building materials (that Corobrik manufactures) to "sustainable" projects within previously disadvantaged communities in and around Corobrik's operations and financial contributions to charities supporting the needy.

Over the years, Corobrik has donated millions of its products to such projects.
