Judith Nzimande - 90th Anniversary for the Zululand Chamber

2016-12-05

The Zululand Chamber of Commerce (now known as the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry or ZCCI, and proudly associated with South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry was founded in October 1926 in eShowe, and we are proudly celebrating our 90th anniversary this year.

The ZCCI is a membership driven, non-profit organisation that aims to foster an environment conducive to
growth and development of business.

The primary focus of the ZCCI has always been to foster a healthy working relationship with local government and potential South African and foreign investors to invest in the region.

The Chamber's vision is to protect and stimulate the local economy by providing a collective voice of business, and to that effect, we hold as our core values Integrity; Collaboration; Accountability and Transparency. We are results driven, we offer value for membership and we encourage and reward business excellence.

The ZCCI serves the business community in a variety of ways, including through relevant workshops, presentations and training opportunities, offering networking opportunities throughout the years as well
as gala events and awards ceremonies.

One of the most popular events on the annual calendar is the SMME Seminar, where the focus is on emerging micro, small and medium enterprises. We organise guest speakers and representatives from an array of organisations, including SARS and SEDA to provide information to small business owners.

Another very successful venture is the Entrepreneur Competition where, with funding from the EDTEA, a group of 20 entrepreneurs are further trained, mentored and developed to step up to fully fledged businesses.

Some of the ZCCI's recent achievements include:
  • Involvement and advocacy in the current drought situation, being an integral part to the efforts to secure a bigger pipeline transporting water from the Tugela River to Goedertrouw Dam.
  • Extending the Business Development Centre to the townships.
  • Being an active party to the KZN Growth Coalition.
  • Providing SMME related presentations at meetings and forums.
  • Offering a mini boardroom to companies who don't have their own.
  • Re-structuring of chamber fees to include start-up businesses.
  • Value added training presented to members and non-members.
  • Regular hosting of the business leaders forum / CEO's Meeting.
  • Offering a successful intern programme
  • Extremely successful annual events - Business Excellence Awards, SMME Seminar, Business Women's Conference
  • Development of new innovative events and projects related to SMME development.
  • Continually adding additional chamber services and value added products.
  • Intervention to establish business friendly load shedding schedule.
  • Intervention to remove stumbling blocks in development.
The Chamber offers information on certain aspects of exporting and importing and through the Chamber, members have access to chambers situated in most parts of the world. We also assist with the development and implementation of Business Growth and Retention Strategies (LED) and we continuously lobby the provincial/local government on issues of mutual concern to all members and local chambers.

In terms of Business Advice, the Chamber is able to provide members with information on a variety of business matters including: Company Registrations, NGO listing, BBBEE Certificates; General Business advice, Income Tax, VAT, WMCA, UIF, PAYE and SDL.

We can offer advice on connecting SMMEs with funding opportunities and can assist companies with credit reference checks, assistance with letters of good standing and distributing tender information.

The Chamber can assist members who require guidance and information on labour issues, conditions of employment etc.

Leadership of the ZCCI rests with a group of established business leaders. The ZCCI President is Judith Nzimande, General Manager Human Resources at RBCT. The Deputy Presidents are Thabani Shale (Raizcorp) and Danny Naidoo (DNK Engineering), while Sizwe Khumalo of Isizinda is the Immediate Past President.

Other Exco Members are Vusi Nene, Barbara van Rooyen, Thula Mkhwanazi, Panaso Ndlela, Andile Mtshali, Tebogo Matolo, Mike Patterson, Dave Whittaker, Norman Nxumalo, Duncan Balmer and Gereth Reeves.

The ZCCI is the voice of business in Zululand, ensure that your business is heard!
