eThekwini MunicipalityThe Wenze Kahle Mayoral Breakfast

2013-04-09

Approximately 20 eThekwini citizens from various fields who have recently received national and international awards were honoured and applauded today, 08/04/13, by the Municipality at Moses Mabhida Stadium for their contribution towards flying the Durban flag high and being good ambassadors for the City.

The Wenze Kahle Mayoral Breakfast is part of a broader strategy to acknowledge citizens who have excelled in their respective fields, encourage them to keep flying the Durban flag high and for the younger generation to look up to these idols and follow in their footsteps.

Deputy City Manager of the Community and Emergency Services Cluster, Dr Musa Gumede, congratulated the honoured guests and sincerely thanked them for being good role models for society. “The Municipality prides itself to be associated with progressive people that stand out in their respective professions and thereby making the City and its people to be proud of their achievements,” said Dr Gumede, adding that their accomplishments not only brought a good name for the City, but resulted in positive economic spin-offs that are by-products of their success. He pledged that the Municipality will continue to support, encourage and share in the success of these outstanding citizens.

Head of Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit, Mr Thembinkosi Ngcobo, said that in a time where the nation was plagued with a lot of negative stories, it was refreshing and encouraging to read in the media about the successes of the honoured guests. He likened them to golden daffodils that may be growing and flouting in different valleys but their success unites and gives the City something to be proud of. Ngcobo said that this was not an award ceremony, but one that is aimed at honouring and acknowledging the City’s “golden daffodils”.
