2015-07-30

The public will have another opportunity to comment on the proposed Durban Point Waterfront Development plan which includes the expansion of the promenade.

EThekwini Municipality and project stakeholders will hold public consultation meeting on Friday, 31 July 2015, to further engage with members of the public to ensure that affected residents get a platform to air their views on the proposed plan.

During the meeting, scheduled to take place at the Botanical Gardens, the Municipality together with the developers and project partners will highlight the importance of this development.

The Point Waterfront Development will enhance other development opportunities that are planned to take place as part of the Inner-City Regeneration Plan that the Municipality has developed to address infrastructure and development challenges in the City.

Mayor James Nxumalo said developments of this nature will stimulate economic activities and attract more investments in the City.

“The City of Durban is one city which is recognised for its rich heritage and culture, the proposed plan has taken into consideration the existing historical buildings. We will ensure that while development is taking place, we continue to maintain our City history,” said Nxumalo

Nxumalo added that the intention of this development is to transform the run-down precinct into a world class environment.

The public consultation meeting is scheduled as follows:

DATE : 31 July 2015

VENUE : Durban’s Botanical Gardens

TIME : 18h00 to 20h00
