South Durban Basin Area Based Management Local Economic Development Workshop: Opportunities Associated With Durban Dig Out Port (DDOP)

The South Durban Basin Area Based Management has established a Local Economic Development Steering Committee which provides Local Economic Development role players with a platform to engage, in dealing with strategic economic development issues in a coordinated manner.

The Local Economic Development Steering Committee has planned a workshop to begin to interrogate opportunities and define targets associated with the Durban Dig Out Port (DDOP) project.

The workshop will provide a platform for various stakeholders from the Municipality, private sector and provincial government to share, discuss and plan a programme of action that will ensure optimal benefits for eThekwini from the DDOP project.

The executive Planning Manager for Transnet, Ms Naomi Tsebe is expected to present the keynote address focusing on Social sustainability and Local Economic Development Imperatives. Regional Infrastructure Development Plans and Supplier Development Presentations will also form part of the programme for the day. Other speakers include Shunnon Tulsiram from eThekwini’s Economic Development Unit and Thomas Mketelwa from eThekwini Municipality’s Skills Development Unit, and Provincial Department of Economic Development.
