ETHEKWINI IS READY TO HOST THE LAST INBOUND DELEGATION FROM THE AMERICAS AND CARIBBEAN COMMONWEALTH GAMES

2015-08-06

A group, consisting of 17 members of the Commonwealth Games Federation from the Americas and the Caribbean will arrive in Durban today, 05/08/15, for the last leg of the inbound visits to inspect the City’s proposed venues for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In a report released on Monday, 03/08/15, the Commonwealth Games Federation Evaluation Commission recommended that its members should vote in favour of Durban to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

This recommendation does not mean that the City has been awarded the bid, and the necessary processes will still take place. Consequently, the last group of delegates is still visiting the City to inspect the proposed facilities and infrastructure so as to vote from an informed position during the Commonwealth Games Federation Annual General Assembly on Wednesday, 02 September 2015.

The venues to be inspected include the Rachel Finlayson Pool, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban International Convention Centre, Durban Exhibition Centre, Beachfront Promenade, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Queensmead Hockey Stadium, Collegians lawn bowls and the Cascade Mountain Bike Park in Pietermaritzburg.
