eThekwini Municipality - Emmerging Fashion Designers Encouraged To Participate In The City's Fashion Mentorship Programme

2017-11-08

EThekwini Municipality remains committed to providing support to emerging fashion designers to ensure growth of the fashion sector is well sustained.

And to ensure that fashion designers remain competitive in the industry, eThekwini Municipality will once again host a 10-month Fashion Mentorship Programme to capacitate fashion designers with skills that will help build a stronger textile and fashion industry in the City.

The Municipality is calling interested emerging fashion designers, who reside within the greater eThekwini Municipal area, to apply for this exciting once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

A detailed presentation about the programme will be held on Thursday, 9 November between 9am â€" 11am at the Botanic Gardens Conference Centre. All interested and aspiring fashion designers are invited and encouraged to attend the presentation which will unpack what the ten month programme entails.

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the Municipality initiated this programme as one of the tools to equip and expose fashion designers to various business and fashion skills, which will enable them to be innovative and enhance their businesses.

“The mentorship programme will ensure that the fashion sector grows and will unlock employment opportunities. The Municipality prides itself on the progress this programme has made in assisting local designers,” said Mayor Gumede.

She said over the three years that the programme has been running, it has produced well experienced fashion designers who are nationally recognised.

During the training, designers will be assisted to facilitate market and networking opportunities that expose them to a wider market. It will also provide opportunities for them to learn both business and fashion trends.

All interested fashion designers and fashion houses are requested to forward the following information:

•Company profile

•Individual profile/CV and attach copies of their matric certificate and relevant Diploma or Degree
