Municipal Manager Sibusiso Sithole has made a clarion call to the media to partner with the Municipality in improving the lives of the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal and eThekwini in particular. Sithole said this at a recent breakfast meeting between him, Mayor James Nxumalo, members of the Executive Committee and editors representing various media houses.

He said he was making the call to partner with the media because he understood that media played a pivotal role in society. “It is very important that we work together for the City to thrive. If you have to criticise you are at liberty to do that but it must be a constructive criticism,” Sithole said. He assured the media that the Municipality was ready to provide the services required, saying that it was also very important to attend to the plight of young people who are unemployed. “It is in meetings like these where it is very important to discuss ways in which the City can be taken forward.

We will continue organising meetings of this nature where we get a chance to talk about various issues,” he said. Nxumalo emphasised that it was important to meet the media from time to time so that relations would be strengthened. Judy Sandison from SABC congratulated the work that has been done by the City, particularly on staging big events like the recent COP 17 which was hailed a huge success.
