Hilton Durban Finishes Hotel Refurbishment

2017-04-24

Durban, South Africa â€" 24 April 2017 â€"Wellsituated adjacent to the Durban International Convention Centre, the Hilton Durban is currently completed a major refurbishment, which was undertaken in five phases at a total capital investment of over ZAR 200 million. The full project will be scheduled for completion in 2018 after completing the meetings and banqueting facilities.

The refurbishment project has already included the lobby and Big Easy Winebar & Grill Durban by Ernie Els, which recently won the Silver award status at the 2017 A’ Design Awards in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Category.  Conversion of what was formerly a bar to an exclusiveBusiness Lounge, redesigning all its suites â€" including the Presidential Suite - with a fresh, new aesthetic feel.

The latest addition is the new VASCO’S RESTAURANT, a vibrant all-day dining restaurant which draws on the best of local and international cuisine.  The sweeping show kitchen, which doubles as the buffet, includes a tandoor oven, pasta station and grill station as well as hot, ambient and chilled displays.  Vasco’s will excite guests with the breadth of cuisine on offer, from a modern take on local dish Bunny Chow, to excellent curries,  African stews,  freshly made breads and delicious salads and tables which spill out onto the outer terrace.  Delicious and enticing breakfast which then transforms during the day to provide quality lunches for meeting or event guests as required and buffet dinners.

Winner of South Africa’s Leading Business Hotel for four consecutive years (2013-2016) at the World Travel Awards and nominated for Africa’s Leading Business Hotel in 2017.  Markus Fritz, general manager at Hilton Durban explains: “The hotel refurbishment was initiated in order to align it with the Hilton brand values and architecture, which have changed over the years.”

Hilton Durban first opened in 1997, and celebrates its 20 years with all 327 bedrooms having been transformed into contemporary spaces with an overall design being inspired by Durban’s rich, diverse cultural heritage; captivating history; its breathtaking stretch of golden shorelines and the warmth and hospitality of its people, to cover the needs of the modern traveler. The plan also involved adding a new room type for families to reflect the increase of guests coming to visit Durban for leisure, looking for more space and comfort.

"The entire team is thrilled to be welcoming guests into our newly renovated hotel. We have always listened to our loyal guests and what they loved about staying with us and we learned that Hilton Durban is a top choice for visitors to Durban because of its iconic location, breath-taking views of Indian Ocean and Durban city and keeping the modern traveler in mind, giving them the technology, flexibility, personalization and convenience of their stay that they need.

These enhancements ensure we continue extending innovative products and exceptional services to our guests.  Such as the entire upgrade done on the air-conditioning units and an all new infrastructure and advancement on the strength of our Wi-Fi connection in all guest rooms by July 2017.Our investment delivers an even more welcoming environment and we look forward to welcoming travelers and locals alike, and exceeding their expectations for leisure visits, corporate stays and events." said Markus Fritz.
