Toya Delazy set to rock the 2015 African Renaissance Festival

2015-04-28

Latoya Nontokozo Buthelezi aka Toya Delazy is a musician hailing from eMhlabathini, Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa. Already with two albums to her tittle “Due Drop” and “Ascension”, she has already proven herself both locally and internationally as a force to be reckoned with. Her career spans back to the time when she was nine years old. Toya attended a convent school where she learnt how to play classical piano as well as composing music. She’s a descendent of Princess Magogo (a traditional Zulu composer).

Toya’s big break came while doing a performance for a live event, she was then approached by producer Markus Els to record few songs at a studio. A demo was given to Vusi Leeuw who presented it to Sony Music Africa. As they say the rest is history Toya was later signed to Sony Music Africa on 19 April 2011.
Toya’s music is often described as JEHP which is commonly known as a fusion of jazz, electro hop and pop.

Her musical influences include acts such as Asa, Nirvana, Adele and Radiohead just to name a few. Toya holds three SAMA’s to her name she’s also been nominated for numerous awards including the Best International Act at the BET awards. Ever since her first solo performance in Newton, Johannesburg in 2011 Toya has never disappointed when it comes to her music making and we certainly look forward to hearing more from this musical marvel.
