HE Mr Andrzej Kanthak â€" Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of South Africa is committed to continue to focus on investment in the education of young people, especially those from KZN. This commitment follows from the 2016 talk between KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu and Her Excellency Ms Anna Raduchwska-Brochwicz, the former Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of South Africa. At that time it was agreed that an exchange programmes focusing on skills development targeted at young people would be developed.

Ignacy Łukasiewicz Programme

Currently, the Ignacy Łukasiewicz programme, named after the prominent Polish philanthropist and petroleum industry pioneer, provides study bursaries.

Two types of scholarships are on offer:

Master studies in the area of sciences, natural sciences technical sciences and agricultural, forestry and veterinary sciences technical fields preceded by a one-year university preparatory course. After the first year of studies, the scholarship holders will be able to take part in a student exchange under the Erasmus programme (for universities which have concluded appropriate contracts with foreign universities).

Deadline for the submission of applications 23 June 2017 PHD studies in the following fields of sciences: mathematical, physical, chemical, biological, earth sciences, technological, agricultural, forestry and veterinary sciences.

Deadline for the submission of applications 5 July 2017

Essentially, the language of studies is Polish.

The amount of the scholarship, which covers the costs of accommodation and living, is PLN 1350 per month.

Additional opportunity

International students may enroll for a range of undergraduate and post graduate study programmes in Poland which will be preceded by a mandatory year long Polish language course. Both the course and studies are free of charge.

Students will have to have:

• Medical insurance for the entire academic year
• Means to support oneself in Poland and to pay for accommodation in a student dormitory (appr. EURO 300 per month)
• Medical certificate of good health
