African Renaissance Festival 2015

2015-04-28

Africa Day, held annually on the 25 May is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), presently recognized as the African Union (AU). The commemoration is internationally renowned where, regardless of their location, Africans from all over the world celebrate the concept of African unison and revive their heritage.

This year, The African Renaissance Festival which will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC Complex in Durban boasts an array of top local musicians who will be entertaining as well as celebrating the continent of Africa.

Chart topping and multiple award recording artist Donald Moatshe, or Donald as he is popularly known to his fans will be one of the major acts to don the stage in celebration of Africa Day. Donald is an artist and he brings with him refreshing music coupled with a clean image and abundant singing and writing talent.

South Africans were taken by surprise at the beginning of 2011 when Donald released “I Deserve,” a song from his second and one of the most anticipated albums of 2012. Having been previously known as an Afro-Soul singer, most were very stunned to hear this musical shift to the Dance/House genre.

Another artist who will be joining Donald is Ukhozi FM DJ Sgqemeza. At just over 34 years of age, DJ Sgqemeza is one of the record breakers on radio. After ruling the afternoon drive show on the biggest radio station in Africa, he was replaced by another DJ and the listeners would have none of it. They pressured station management to return DJ Sgqemeza to his afternoon slot where he continued making waves. They say change is always good and that can be seen currently as this vibrant man hosts the leading breakfast show in the land, Vuka Mzansi Breakfast Show.

The very popular Kwa-Zulu Natal DJ has won two times in a row the â€" MTN Best Afternoon Drive show in 2012 and 2013.

DJ Sgqemeza and Donald are sure to entertain the thousands of crowds as they help celebrate African unity and diversity.

Be sure to be part of the African Day celebrations on Saturday 23 May 2015 at 18h00 and also the Africa Day Conference on the 25 & 26 May 2015 at the ICC Durban from 08H00-16H00.
