Africa Day Concert on Saturday the 21st of May at the Durban ICC at 6.30 pm

Now in its 18th year, the annual African Renaissance Festival is a celebration of progress and opportunity on the African continent. The Africa Renaissance concert  to be held on Saturday the 21 May at the Durban ICC is a highlight event of the festival programme. Performing this year are acclaimed artists Cassper, Shekhinah, Kyle and the DBN Nyts.

Refiloe Maele Phoolo known as Cassper Nyovest is a South African recording artist and record producer. His debut album Tsholofelo was released on 18 July 2014. It was number  one on the iTunes South African albums chart for two  consecutive months before being knocked off by Duncan's Street Government. Cassper recently made South African musical history by being the first local artist to successfully fill up The Coca Cola Dome at the same time his album Tsholofelo went platinum.  Cassper was awarded Best Male (Southern Africa) and Best Artist in African Hip-Hop Awards  in the 2015 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

Shekhinah Donnell comes from Durban; she completed her matric in 2012 and is currently pursuing a career in the music and entertainment industry. During 2010 and 2011 she performed in the musicals Hairspray and Suessical at the Elizabeth Sneddon in Durban as part of the KZN Young Performers. After reaching the Top 32 of MNET's SA Idols in 2011, she finished in the top 6 of MNET's Season 8 of SA Idols in 2012. Since SA Idols she has performed at a variety of corporate functions, government events and public events.

Kyle Deutschmann started his music career by learning guitar at the end of junior school and singing casually. In 2012 he entered idols SA and finished in the top 20 and that has propelled his passion for music and his career to no end. Kyle has performed around South Africa at the most prestigious venues. Kyle is featured on the Cassper Nyovest album with his track called Alive.

Kyle's talents aren't only limited to the music industry, at the age of 27, he is a practicing chiropractor, a key player for the national beach soccer team and a model.
Shekhinah Donnell and Kyle Deutsch met in the SA Idols Competition 2012 and have been collaborating ever since. Their latest song "Back to the Beach" is one of the biggest songs in South Africa currently and is about escaping the big city of Johannesburg. Both of them were raised in Durban and the beach played a big role in their lives growing up.

Dbn Nyts group members  are Cebe "Teetzee" Ngcobo, Samkele "Soozan" Maphumulo, Lwazi "Slozet" Yokwana, Kabelo "Kaybee" Pekile and Wanda "Choco" Shabalala. The group members met while at Rossburgh High School in KwaZulu-Natal and became known for their dress sense and great dance moves. In early 2013, the group ran away from home to live in Johannesburg. After a tough two-year struggle for the group, DJ Oskido came searching for the Dbn Nyts in the streets of Yeoville last year after hearing 'Shumaya' and signed them on under the Kalawa Jazmee label. The song featured Zinhle Ngidi and enjoyed a lot of airplay on a number of national radio stations. Before this life changing event they recall being rejected by Afrotainment, TS Records, Lvovo, DJ Ganyani, and more big names. Their debut album, Believe, won the best group album at the recent Metro FM Music Awards.


The concert will start at 6.30 pm at the Durban ICC Arena and tickets are available from Computicket.
