Durban Nyts

The five boys consisting of Cebe “Teetzee” Ngcobo, Samkele “Soozan” Maphumulo, Lwazi “Slozet” Yokwana, Kabelo “Kaybee” Pekile and Wanda “Choco” Shabalala started as a dance group back in 2010. The group members met while at Rossburgh High School in KwaZulu-Natal  and became known for their dress sense and great dance moves.

In 2011 Dbn Nyts ventured into Kwaito music and released their first ever EP entitled ‘The next big thing’ with hits like "qoh" "izinto zangaree ft d sqwed" that played all over the Durban clubs.  With the brand growing Dbn Nyts decided to have their own clothing brand called DBN NYTS; cargo pants, t shirts, skinny jeans, cardigans were made and sold. The brand grew to be one to be recognised.

In late 2011 the group was managed by DJ Vumar from Gagasi 99.5fm and released a single called "Stacy" which had airplay on Gagasi 99.5 fm, Inanda fm, vibe fm, just to name a few.  The group also performed in big events like "syashosholoza picnic" Durban summer festival, and the BRICS festival sharing the stage with the likes of Hugh Masikela, Mi Casa, AKA, Mafikizolo, DJ Fresh, Teargas, and many more

In early 2013, the group ran away from home to live in Johannesburg. There they released a single called SYABONGA BRA J, which simply means in Dbn Nyts terms thank you Jesus. In this track the group thanks Jesus in helping them stay together and also stay away from thing that are harmful to them like drug etc.

After a tough two-year struggle for the group, DJ Oskido came searching for the Dbn Nyts in the streets of Yeoville last year after hearing ‘Shumaya’ and signed them right on the spot under the Kalawa Jazmee label. The song featured Zinhle Ngidi and enjoyed a lot of airplay on a number of national radio stations. Before this life changing event they recall being rejected by Afrotainment, TS Records, Lvovo, DJ Ganyani, and more big names.

Their debut album, Believe, won the best group album at the recent Metro FM Music Awards.
