The African Scholarship Scheme (ASS) is offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the
cultural arm of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, to South African nationals.

Each year, ICCR offer 52 slots to South Africa for pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and post - doctoral studies.

ASS offers degree / diploma / certificate courses in the field of arts, fine arts, IT, commerce and science. For students wishing to study engineering courses, it is mandatory that physics, chemistry and mathematics are included in their school leaving examinations with 60% marks.

Scholarships for medical studies such as MBBS, BDS or for medical research leading to Ph.D. degrees are not offered under the Africa Scholarship Scheme.

The scholarship offers return international airfare from South Africa to India along with stipends for living allowance and house rent allowance for the selected scholars. The university course fees and medical insurance are paid by ICCR directly to the concerned university.

The academic session in India starts in June/July. The applicant must be proficient in English and have a valid passport for the duration of course before submitting the application.

The ICCR has developed a new scholarship portal named A2A (‘Admission to Alumni’). All applications are to be submitted online on the link provided at: www.a2ascholarships.iccr.gov.in. The applicants are registered first before they can start the online application. Instructions and policy guidelines for applicants

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme was instituted on September 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India.

Training or capacity building is one of the major activities under ITEC. The professionals and people from developing countries are offered unique training courses, both civilian and defence, in different centres of excellence in India which empower them with not just professional skills but prepare them for an increasingly globalised world.

Civilian Training Programme
Every year around 5000 slots are allocated to ITEC partner countries to attend the various civilian training courses in India.

These are fully sponsored by the Government of India. There are 56 institutions conducting 318 courses
of various lengths during the year.

The courses are for applicants in the age group of 25-45 years of age who are working in government, private and public sector, parastatals, universities, chambers of commerce and industry.

The training programme is demand driven and subjects selected are of interest to developing countries for their working professionals on a wide and diverse range of skills and disciplines.

The level of these courses range from introductory to advance level. Courses on offer include:

• Agriculture, food and fertilizer
• Banking, finance, accounts and audit
• Engineering and technology
• English language
• Environmental and renewable energy courses
• Government function
• Health and yoga
• Human resource development and planning
