Christie van Niekerk appointed Corobrik Executive Committee member.

It has been a long and rewarding journey for Corobrik’s Christie van Niekerk, who started with the company as a Production Management Trainee 32 years ago. 

Three years after his employment, Van Niekerk was appointed as Management Trainee which saw him working in all departments at Corobrik where he gained invaluable insights into all business operations. In 1988, after completion of his training, Van Niekerk was promoted to Production Manager at the Rietvlei Factory in Pretoria. In 1991 he relocated to Nigel as Production Manager to oversee the Nigel factory planned shut-down. He then moved back to Rietvlei as Production Manager before taking up his first Factory Manager appointment at

Odendaalsrus in1994. 

Corobrik then deployed Van Niekerk as Factory Manager Crown Mines in 1995 before his appointment as Factory Manager Western Cape in 1997overseeing both and the Phesantekraal and Paarl Factories. 

From 2008, Van Niekerk was promoted to Manager of the Western Cape which entailed looking after production, sales and administration of the province. 

Throughout his career, Van Niekerk has managed to continue his studies, attaining National Diplomas in Heavy Clay Technology and Business Administration, as well as B Tech and Masters’ Degrees in Business Administration. 

Christopher du Trevou appointed Corobrik Executive Committee member

Recently elected onto Corobrik’s Executive Committee, Christopher du Trevou is determined to ensure the company continues on its upward trajectory.

Du Trevou completed his B.com degree through the University of KwaZulu-Natal, finishing his honours by correspondence through Unisa.

He gained a wealth of experience during his employment at BDO South Africa from 2007 to 2012. Here he completed his three-year articles, continuing for a further two years in the position of audit supervisor.

He relished the opportunity to work for the BDO London office from January 2012 to June 2012 where he also occupied the role of audit supervisor. Here he worked for a number of interesting clients in England and also had the opportunity of visiting Ireland and Wales. It was during this year that he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Holding the position of National Management Accountant at Corobrik since November 2012, Du Trevou and his team look after, and report on, the performances of all Corobrik factories on a monthly basis. Based at the Avoca head office in KwaZulu-Natal, Du Trevou also oversees the company’s payroll department. 

Barry Lelong appointed as Executive Committee member at Corobrik

Joining Corobrik’s Executive Committee, Barry Lelong is committed to ensuring the 113-year-old organisation continues to forge the right connections in this ever-expanding digital age. 

Lelong initially started working at Corobrik in 1997 as an outsourced network engineer. This demanded a high level of technical IT functions, linking the wide and local area networks. 

In 2002 he officially joined the company in the role of senior network engineer, a position he held for three years before transitioning to the business application side of IT when he was promoted to regional support manager. Here Lelong became more involved in the core business processes of the organisation. 

Nine years later, he took the business systems’ manager position, quickly moving up to Information Communications’ Technology (ICT) Manager earlier this year.

Having received his Electronic Engineering Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Lelong is currently completing his third year of Masters in Business Leadership Degree. 

He is relishing his new role, which requires making strategic business decisions affecting the direction of IT within the company, as well as being more involved with people management. 

Lelong hopes to effectively manage and align the IT portfolio of investments with all future requirements of the business.
