The top architectural graduates from seven institutions throughout South Africa will compete for the prestigious twenty-fifth Corobrik Architectural Student of the Year Award at a function to be held on the 7th March 2012 in the Ballroom at the Wanderers Club 21 North Road, Illovo, Johannesburg commencing at 18h00.

Mr. Dirk Meyer, Corobrik’s Managing Director said, “With Corobrik products now part of South Africa’s built heritage for 110 years and our involvement with the architectural profession spanning decades it is fitting as a company with a well defined sustainability agenda and products with so much to offer to sustainable architecture, that we continue our support of Architectural Student of the Year programme.

“Architects have a fundamental role to play in our developing nation to produce architecture that is holistic in its resolution of the sustainability imperative â€" addressing the economic, social and environmental issues with careful thought and due sensitivity.”

While Corobrik initiated this competition 25 years ago to promote quality design and to acknowledge architectural talent amongst students, and that has not changed, this awards programme has in the context of the prevailing sustainability paradigm, become an increasingly important catalyst for extending the discourse on what constitutes sustainable architecture in the South African context â€" and that is good”.

The top thesis students from Universities and approved Universities of Technology throughout South Africa go forward to the national competition that takes place over three days.
