FORTUNA GOES ALL IN AS TABLES MANAGER AT SUNCOAST!

The Tables Manager at SUNCOAST Casino, Hotels and Entertainment has a name perfect for her job! “And I got into the profession I am in today through losing a bet â€" so it was meant to be!”

So says Fortuna Dougherty, who is also known by two other nicknames â€" Strict School Master (SSM) or Fortuna ‘Be the best you can be’ Dougherty.

Mauritian by birth, Fortuna first began working in the casino industry in the early 80s and has worked in Swaziland, Dubai and Mauritius, to name a few.

Bubbly and full of life, Fortuna cites her age as “young!” and says she has “over 2000 children and counting, most of them in the Tables Department and all over 18 years old!”

As Tables Manager her responsibilities entail ensuring “that the Tables perform to their full potential through our employees, so that our guests enjoy their stay with us and can’t wait to come back.”

Over the years Fortuna says that the two most fascinating games for her are roulette and baccarat.

“No two games are the same in roulette. Bets vary and the players know what they want to play. Croupiers have to be on constant alert â€" this makes them either excellent or mediocre at what they do. Most importantly though, it’s fun. In baccarat, players can become extremely passionate about the game.”

Fortuna is proud of her various achievements outside the workplace. “I have won quite a few golf competitions â€" and was golf Vice Club Captain and Club Captain of Arabian Ranches in Dubai, UAE. I have played golf with quite a few professionals, including Woosie (Ian Woosman) and Thomas Levet.”

She also established an English Language Summer School at GEMS World Academy in Dubai â€" “which is still running today!”

For now Fortuna is focused on the year ahead: “The smooth running of the Tables department is priority! Beyond that I know for certain that I want to mentor and coach and have an impact on people’s lives.”

Believing in living life to the fullest and Carpe Diem (Seize the day) are her motto’s to live by, the Tables at Suncoast promise to be quite lively under Fortuna’s watchful eye.
