After scooping three prestigious Naledi Theatre Awards earlier this year Scorched makes its way to Durban stage at The Playhouse!

Jade Bowers’ harrowing production Scorched walked off with Best Director of a Play (Jade Bowers), Best Lead Performance in a Play: Female (Ilse Klink) and Best Supporting Actress (Ameera Patel) at the Naledi’s.

Scorched is an epic yet intimate family drama by acclaimed Lebanese-Canadian playwright WajdiMouawad. The play follows twins Janine and Simon Marwan on a riveting journey to the heart of their mother's war-torn Middle-Eastern homeland in pursuit of their tangled roots and a long-lost sibling. In this land, where civil war, massacre and revenge constitute a way of life, the twins uncover shocking secrets about their mother's history, about themselves and their origins.

The production is directed by Jade Bowers, with lighting design by Oliver Hauser, design by Nadine Minaar and music composition by Matthew MacFarlane. The all-star cast features Cherae Halley, Jaques De Silva ,MphoOsei-Tutu , Bronwyn van Graan , Ameera Patel , Gopala Davies and Ilse Klink.

Bowers is the 2016 Standard Bank Young Artist for Theatre. Scorched premiered on the main programme at the 2016 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown to high critical acclaim, and went on to a season at UJ Arts Centre in Johannesburg. KZN audiences will have the opportunity to experience this acclaimed production from 16 to 19 August in the Playhouse Drama Theatre as it is presented by The Playhouse Company as part of its SA Women’s Arts Festival.

Public performances take place at 19h30 on 18 August, 14h30 and 19h30 on 19 August. Tickets for these performances are available via Computicket or Shoprite Checkers at R80 each. There is an age restriction of PG13
