The Playhouse Company’s KZN Arts Showcase week two!2017-10-10 The Playhouse Company’s inaugural KZN Arts Showcase got off to a buzzing start with a warm reception from the arts community and general public seeing the first weekend of shows stage to packed houses!
As we enter the second weekend of the Showcase â€" which stages until 21 October â€" be sure to catch the following productions at the Loft Theatre. Life-Lines, staging on 13 October at 16h30 and 14 October at 14h30 is an ensemble piece consisting of excerpts from plays to shed light on elements of human nature. Love, forgiveness, cultural difference, loss… The piece showcases monologues, poetry, music and dance in a journey through discovery of what it means to be alive. No under 12s. Kubili 2 is contemporary dance theatre piece staging on 13 October at 19h30 and 14 October at 17h00. Kubili2 is a double bill of dance theatre duets choreographed by Musa Hlatshwayo and performed by Mhayise Productions. Dudlu...Dadlaza: a metaphorical journey of two black young women who navigate their identity in a society where political ideologies impose standards and expectations around their identity. DODA: an exploration of issues around black male identity and modern day and traditional masculinity in a society that is faced with the struggle of negotiating its collective political socio-political identity. No under 12s. Then on 13 October (from 13h00 â€" 16h00) acclaimed director, Clare Mortimer will be holding a Directing Master Class â€" one surely not for aspiring directors to miss! Also on 13 October The Playhouse Company hosts a FREE Sundowner Concert featuring Durban’s own Phumlani Mtiti Trio and Simthandile Mtolo from 17h30. While on 14 October you can catch a FREE poetry showcase at 15h30 featuring Mbali Xulu, Siphosabanguni, Nkqubela Arosi and Kwazi Ndlangisa. All productions, Sundowner Concerts and Poetry are FREE entry. A total of 10 productions will stage during this showcase which was created to celebrate authentic local works. This showcase has been co-curatored by The Playhouse Company with K-CAP, Umsindo Theatre Projects, The University of KZN Drama Department and an independent panel, who recommended productions based on pre-set criteria. This included nominations of the best productions from their respective programmes, festivals or competitions.
