While some studies, often funded by the chemical companies themselves, claim the decline may be due to a combination of factors including disease, habitat loss and toxic chemicals, powerful independent research has produced strong evidence pointing the finger at neonicotinoid pesticides. It is this startling evidence and the effective public campaigning by Avaaz and partners across Europe that won the EU ban. The US Environmental Protection Agency is required by Congress to regulate toxins, but for years they’ve been influenced by big agriculture and chemical companies and fudged the law.
