KZN Business Sense - Sharing Resources

2016-01-20

The National Federated Chamber of Commerce & Industry KwaZulu-Natal (NAFCOC KZN) and Nomaswazi High School have partnered to share resources to make a difference in the best way that they can.

Nomaswazi is an independent high school based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The school has been in operation for 21 years and strives to provide education at affordable fees for the previously disadvantaged community where it is located. Over the years Nomaswazi High School has developed
a formidable reputation for high pass rates and quality education. Besides Grade 8 to 12, this school is one of the first independent schools to provide for second chance matric learners. The second chance
programme has been developed to be considered one of the best in KwaZulu-Natal.

The two organisations realised that one of the biggest problems that the youth of today face is the lack of exposure to the world of work. Consequently, Nomaswazi High School hosts a number of events for learners during an academic year whereby, drawing on the experience of NAFCOC KZN members, learners receive motivational talks and career guidance.

The Grade 11 learners have a â€˜work experience’ week where they explore potential career paths and have the opportunity to be placed at NAFCOC KZN member businesses. During that week they experience firsthand what their future career is really all about.

NAFCOC KZN’s future aims are to provide more opportunities for the involvement of Nomaswazi High School learners to NAFCOC KZN programmes through seminars, expos, youth programmes and youth
structures.
