KZN Ebandla campaign- Durban's stars gather in Sydney

2016-04-29

People can be united no matter where they are in the world and a recent dinner in Sydney not only united but celebrated the successes of former alumni from KwaZulu-Natal.

Known as the KZN Ebandla Reunion Dinner, Ebandla means 'Council of the Wise' and is based on the ancient Zulu custom of the elders sitting together and discussing issues of community interest and similar occasions have been celebrated in London, New York and Dubai.

Ebandla is global initiative of KwaZulu-Natal former Premier, Sibusiso Ndebele, now South Africa's High Commissioner to Australia, who co-hosted the event with the mayor of eThekwini Municipality James Nxumalo.

The Sydney dinner is part of a collaboration between the African Renaissance, a nonprofit organisation, the Sharks Rugby franchise, and the City of Durban, official tourism partner of the Sharks, and the South African High Commission in Australia and is supported by South African Airways.  The dinner was attended by prominent Cell C Sharks rugby players, led by the most capped Springbok Captain, World Cup winner and current CEO of The Sharks, John Smit.   The KZN Ebandla Campaign was launched in 2005 by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, as part of its African Renaissance initiative.  The KZN Ebandla campaign is aimed at engaging with South Africans, and particularly those from KwaZulu-Natal, now living abroad. The goal of the campaign is to share new developments, investment opportunities,
promotion of tourism, schooling, conferences and exhibitions, and other areas of interest.  The involvement of the Province's successful alumni may be crucial to KZN's ongoing success story as a key component of the South African economy.
