Aslam Patel: Why Waste - Ladysmith Company declares War on Waste

2016-10-18

WHY WASTE is a total waste management company and recovery and recycling depot based in Ladysmith. Aslam Patel’s parents started out in the waste business in the late 60s. At the tender age of 18, Aslam joined the family business, and in 1996, Aslam who is highly innovative and a true stalwart in the waste industry started WHY WASTE.

The company has grown from strength to strength since inception and now boasts a staff complement of 70. The management team, dynamic and dedicated professionals, are all equally committed to environmental conservation and through their recycling campaigns, encourage and educate their community to reuse, reduce and recycle waste. And due to the global crisis we are facing due to too much waste, WHY WASTE has literally declared a WAR ON WASTE.

Why Waste are proud members of Ladysmith Chamber Of Commerce and work very closely with the local municipality, schools, hospitals and local businesses in their efforts to Go Green!

In November 2014, WHY WASTE acquired their Waste Management Licence (WML) âˆ' issued in terms of Section 49(1) of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act no. 59 of 2008). The WML was granted by the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs (DAEA) and obligates WHY WASTE to perform all activities that are outlined in the WML’s Environmental Management programme (EMPr) in an environmentally sound and responsible manner and in accordance with all relevant legislation policies, norms and standards.

This September in their bid to highlight the benefits and need for recycling, and to commemorate Recycling Month, WHY WASTE, together with the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce and Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (edtea), recently hosted a Recycling Poetry Competition for local primary schools. Jennifer Wallace from the Ladysmith Chamber and Dankie Buthelezi from edtea were the external judges and attest to being faced with the daunting task of choosing the winner from a wide range of young and talented poets that entered the competition.

The aim of this exercise was to create awareness amongst the youth about recycling and WHY WASTE certainly achieved this. The Mayor of Alfred Duma Municipality, His Worship, Councillor MV Madlala attended the prize giving and recycling event held by WHY WASTE on the 27 September 2016 and he commended the company for their recycling initiatives.

WHY WASTE has the expertise to offer you a solution for your waste management in the Ladysmith region including surrounding towns. Their team conducts free site analysis, and their services include container rentals, waste recovery and reclamation and waste disposal. They also offer complete waste management packages, which includes on site sorting, management of waste streams, cleaning and maintenance of waste areas.

Recycling has numerous benefits. Be inspired and motivated to contribute to environmental conservation!
Help save our beautiful Earth’s natural resources, conserve energy and reduce pollution. Start recycling today. No effort is too small.
