2017-01-16

THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and Acting Premier, Sihle Zikalala, has expressed his sincere condolences to the family of one his drivers, Bongani Maduna, who passed away tragically in a car accident last night.

Mr. Maduna was with a colleague, Sergeant Kwenu Mabaso, when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the N2 around the Nseleni off-ramp vicinity near Richards Bay. The MEC and his entourage were returning from a provincial government engagement in the UMkhanyakude District where they had been part of a province-wide schools opening functionality monitoring programme.

Sergeant Mabaso sustained minor injuries in the accident and is recuperating in hospital. MEC Zikalala described Mr. Maduna as a dedicated employee who executed his duties with excellence at all times.

“We are extremely shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Mr. Maduna. Over the many years that we worked together, we had grown to be like brothers. As colleagues within the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, we stand with the Maduna family and friends during this trying time. We will maintain close contact and provide the necessary support to the family as it makes the final arrangements for laying Mr. Maduna to rest.”

MEC Zikalala also wished Sergeant Mabaso a speedy recovery.

ISSUED BY THE KWAZULU-NATAL MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS.
