The 16th Annual African Renaissance Festival: Africa in Motion

The 16th Annual African Renaissance Festival will be held from the 20th to the 25th May 2014 in Durban. The Festival consists of a number of high profile events - a youth conference, the African Renaissance Conference, a Banquet dinner and music concert.

Dr Sibusiso Ndebele, Chair of the African Renaissance, said, “The annual African Renaissance Festival continues to be an exciting and worthwhile opportunity to celebrate Africa’s progress and the renewal of our continent.”

The Youth Conference is a highly popular and well attended one day event, which is already fully subscribed, that celebrates entrepreneurship while giving advice on achieving personal success. Speakers this year include Cedric Mkhize, Eleanor Potter and Ryan McFadyen.  Youth Conference organiser, Lyle Krause says, “Our dynamic, influential, and inspirational young speakers will leave everyone on the day inspired and motivated to believe in the possibilities that exist for young South Africans.”

The theme of this year’s African Renaissance Conference to be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on the 22th and 23rd May is “Africa in Motion”. The conference will focus on the maritime, aviation, tourism, media and communication sectors as well as doing business in Africa. Professor Sihawukele Ngubane, Vice Chairperson and Organising Committee Chair for the African Renaissance, says, “In the area of socio-economic development and African integration, Africa will continue to witness momentous development. We need to position ourselves to make full use of any opportunity coming our way.”

The high profile event brings together experts and senior representatives of governments and the private sector, who will provide insights into developments and challenges in South Africa and further afield. Speakers include, amongst others: Commander Tsietsi Mokhele, CEO:  SA Maritime Safety Authority; Tau Morwe, CEO: National Ports Authority; Phil Molefe, Executive Chair,  Africa Media Institute; Saxen van Coller, CEO: Dube TradePort; Fouad Caunhye, Regional Manager: Southern Africa, Emirates.

The guest speaker at the Banquet Dinner will be Dr Johan van Zyl, President and CEO, Toyota South Africa Motors. Entertainment will be provided by the Treble Trio.

The music concert on Sunday the 25th May at 6 pm will include you in the festivity around the unity of Africa. The Organisation of African Unity was founded in 1963 and as a result, the 25 May - Africa Day- marks the day that African Heads of State and Government came together with the intention to unite Africa. The concert, which will be held at the ICC Arena, will feature MiCasa, Uhuru and DJ Sgqemeza. Tickets are available from Computicket.
