NEW PRESIDENT AT THE HELM - Herman Breedt

2017-09-22

The Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), the preeminent business association representing the interests of key sectors of the South African economy, announces the appointment of its new president, Herman Breedt, following its annual general meeting.

Breedt, an entrepreneur with extensive experience on labour matters, takes over  from Ernest Mahlaule who has served two annual terms at the helm of JCCI. Mahlaule wished Breedt well in his new role. Before his nomination as president Breedt was JCCI vice president. “I would like to thank Ernest for the two years he has spent in this hot seat. As I look at the time he has put into this role, I am wondering how difficult it will be for me to put in the same amount of time as he did,” said Breedt after receiving JCCI's Presidential Chain.

Breedt, who is also Managing Director of SA Labour Dynamics, congratulated Ernest for his outstanding work in fostering strategic and sustainable stakeholder relationships during his tenure as president. To create an enabling business environment, Mahlaule championed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development this time last year to better align the provincial government’s enterprise development initiatives with those of the Chamber, among other objectives.

“This has been a wonderful journey. I will continue to support the Chamber as it expands its work to create a vibrant and a dynamic economy,” said Mahlaule. Other officers appointed at the AGM are Jackie MpondoHendricks and Margrit Wolff as the two vice presidents. Mpondo-Hendricks has more than 20 years of global experience as a business strategist and marketer, while Wolff is an accomplished entrepreneur, with extensive experience in the South African freight industry.
