Shangila Holdings trading as Shangilia Boutique Spa is an enterprise development project of Sun International, The Carousel. The spa was officially launched on 16 October 2014 and is 100% black female-owned.

The Spa was founded by Tshepo Mdake, who is the director and the executive manager of the company. Mdake graduated at the University of Johannesburg in Somatology in 2004. She also hosted and presented a Beauty TV Show on M-Net for four years and is a professional TV make-up artist.

Shangilia Boutique Spa boasts 12 treatment stations, a massage therapy room, a specialised facial room, a waxing room, three dedicated pedicure stations and three manicure stations. The spa also features a soothing steam shower and a standard shower.

Shangila Holdings’ mission is to be the pioneer of ultimate wellness awareness through the vehicle of professional therapies and alternative remedies with the aim of creating a tranquil living and working environment.

“The Spa offers a holistic approach to wellness of mind, body and soul, where guests can escape life’s frenetic pace and find sanctuary. It is where they can focus on their wellness and leave feeling revived and rejuvenated,” says Mdake.

Treatments available at Shangilia Boutique Spa include classic Swedish massages, aromatherapy, hot stone massages, full body scrubbing, waxing, hydro therapy, deep cleansing facials, and pedicures and manicures.

The Spa also offers signature deluxe treatments with its unique African fragrance story told in a bottle. “These treatments are very hedonistic, using a secret blend of special oils with a unique twist in their delivery, creating beautiful scented experiences,” explained Mdake.

The fragrance range is setting the bar for home, office and hotel living, ensuring happy, scented spaces anywhere. The product range offers: reed diffusers, room sprays in different sizes and includes refills.

Mdake’s goal is to gain access to the international market through her home fragrance range while remaining proudly South African along the way. “We currently do international exhibitions and showcase our products on the international stage.”

“Our vision is to become the wellness hub of choice in improving general wellbeing and touching lives through our therapies. The bigger part of our vision is to have a footprint on the continent of Africa, branch into Asia, Europe and the United States of America.
