KZN and Maputo Provinces sign economic agreement

2012-03-26

KwaZulu-Natal and Maputo Province in Mozambique have signed an economic co-operation agreement. The pact seeks to help grow the economies of the two provinces.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize and his Maputo counterpart Boas Vidas signed on the dotted line. The provinces will co-operate on logistics and transport. Tourism, Education and Agriculture will also receive a further boost.

"We've now worked on a memorandum of understanding to help the two countries through these provinces to develop together, to build each others economy, to bring various business groups as well as particular programs to be aligned," says Mkhize.

The agreement is expected to benefit the two provinces as well as both countries

Both leaders emphasised the role Mozambique played in South Africa's liberation.

"Without prospects, we don't have freedom, without freedom we don't have peace. If we are going to have peace, we have to achieve time for development, develop ourselves, develop our country and develop our life because our aim is to reach out to poverty," highlighted Vidas.
