Ugu District Municipality, on the KZN South Coast walked away with top honours at last night's Premiers Service Excellence Awards, becoming the only municipality to have won gold at this event.

The event was held yesterday at Durban' ICC and saw the municipality beat other top contenders from provincial government departments in the province.

The awards recognise efforts aimed at improving service delivery particularly with regards to deepening the culture of Batho Pele in the province

Speaking at the glittering function at which some of the top South African artist performed, Ugu mayor Sthembiso Cele said this award reflects the thinking and commitment of the municipality's administration. "We feel honoured to have been given this award. It vindicates our strongly held belief that we exist to service our people and therefore we must serve them with dignity, respect and with dedication" he said. He added that the award will spur the municipality to work harder to address challenges that in respect of service backlogs, amongst other things.
