2009-04-21

The Province of KwaZulu-Natal, home of the FIFA 2010 Host City Durban, has made history by becoming the first province in South Africa to launch a Provincial 2010 website.

The website www.kzn2010.gov.za was launched at a glittering event attended by a host of dignitaries in the KwaZulu-Natal Capital City of Pietermaritzburg on April 8, 2009. Addressing the high-powered gathering that included SA 2010 LOC CEO Dr. Danny Jordaan, the Chairperson of the Provincial 2010 Core Committee, Dr Zweli Mkhize, said the website marked another “significant milestone” in the province’s 2010 plan.

“This launch is yet another milestone in our 2010 plans. We believe that 2010 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is our moment as a country, a province and a continent, to work together and deliver on our promise to the rest of the world.”
He said the province was extremely proud to have FIFA LOC support in all its initiatives. “We are extremely honoured that the FIFA LOC CEO Dr. Danny Jordaan also joins us in this celebration to launch this vital platform that is so critical to the success of 2010 in our province of KwaZulu-Natal.”

Speakers for the evening included 2010 Host City (Durban) Manager Dr. Michael Sutcliffe, Danny Jordaan and uMgungundlovu District Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee.

The website provides information, news and updates on the provinces preparations and developments for 2010. The KwaZulu-Natal Government is investing in key projects to ensure that the province successfully hosts the world during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and leaves a lasting legacy for its people.

The evening celebration was a colourful affair, with local talent including dancers dressed in the national soccer team (Bafana Bafana) attire. Soccer-clad youth sounded the vuvuzelas to signal the launch of the website.
