Sipho Zikode from The Department of Trade & Industry presented on the proposed amendments to the B-BBEE Act which would focus on the following:
-
alleviating fronting of broad based black economic empowerment transactions by empowering a special investigations unit to investigate instances of fraud and corruption, and
-
regulation within the BEE industry in order to ensure that there is some accountability with regards BEE ratings agencies.
The Department of Trade & Industry is currently engaging at cabinet level for approval of these proposed amendments where the minister will issue a code of good practice for a 60 day public commentary period.
