The SmartXchange Stakeholder Breakfast held today at Durban Country Club, was a true reflection of government’s commitment to SMME support, development and economic growth. At the breakfast, Kagiso Ntanga, representative of TIA, expressed how grateful TIA is to SmartXchange to have found in them, a partner that shares the same vision and passion for SMME’s. The focus of this partnership is to provide support to MICTe SMME’s and/or entrepreneurs with a grant funding of up to R500 000.00 as well as incubation support. With eight SMME’s currently being supported within the programme, TIA remains pleased with the strides achieved by SmartXchange in this regard, and has therefore, boldly, pledged ongoing support towards the partnership with a cheque presentation R5 million for further support SMME innovation funding.
The common factor between the stakeholders and funders of SmartXchange is always the alignment of strategies that are SMME focused. Mr Lusapho Njenge, Acting CEO of Seda, complimented SmartXchange on the excellent incubation model that is being implemented which results in SmartXchange being one of the most successful incubator under the support of Seda whom Seda is very proud of. He also expressed great delight in the progress made by SmartXchange, together with Seda, towards the establishment of the Hibiscus Coast SmartXchange MICTe SMME Incubator.
The Speaker of the eThekwini Municipality, Councillor Logie Naidoo, graced the breakfast and presented a special message of support to SmartXchange, on behalf of the Mayor. The message complimented SmartXchange in their achievements within the incubation space thus far and motivated for the incubator to continue on this spirit so as to remain as one of the city’s flagship project.
The stakeholders were excited to note the 2015 achievements of the SmartXchange SMME’s, when Jonathan Naidoo, CEO of SmartXchange, presented, where 55 SMME’s managed to achieve a collective turnover of R 163 774 326.00 and also created a total of 322 jobs.
